Vintage Style Illustrations of Coltishall and Horstead

Inspired by my new surroundings, I have recently created an illustration of one of my favourite spots in the Coltishall, the green overlooking the river and the Rising Sun village pub. The style of the image was inspired by my love of Vintage travel posters and the fact that our garden looks onto the Bure Valley Railway Station, we can see and hear the steam trains as they pass through, so it’s the perfect era.

The success of my first design prompted me to create a Christmas card too, I chose another favourite scene and gave a festive feel to Coltishall High Street. Next I created an illustration of Horstead Mill, Horstead is just over the river from Coltishall, and they don’t like to be left out! The original Horstead illustration shows 2 canoeists, who were having fun the day I took the research photos. After showcasing the new design on the village Facebook pages, I was contacted by a “Crazy Lady” – not being rude, that’s the name of a group of ladies who enjoy wild swimming year round at the Mill and other Norfolk locations, and so I created the swimming version. Which escalated into a Christmas card (complete with woolly hats on the ladies), and an Etsy shop to sell them all though. That in turn lead to another special request to create a version with paddle boarders. Phew! What a busy few weeks.
